Fosdick Convocation - October 23-26, 2006

Many of America's greatest preachers will assemble at historic Riverside Church to call progressive Christians to renewed vigor in challenging times.  Honoring the 100th anniversary of the birth of Riverside's founding minister, Harry Emerson Fosdick, the Fosdick Preaching Convocation was first
held in 1978 and subsequently in 1982, 1986 and 1997. Union is one of the eight area seminaries co-sponsoring the event with the Riverside Church.

The convocation will include workshops and dynamic preaching from today's most honored preachers, including Union's Barbara Lundblad.

The Poverty Initiative is sponsoring two workshops:

Street Preaching
Tuesday, Oct. 24
Led by Jeff Mansfield
Responding to claims of job discrimination and mistreatment work of immigrant workers in New York, the Poverty Initiative, along with students from the Union Theological Seminary’s Preaching for Social Transformation Class, have led weekly worship services for worker’s rights in front of restaurants across New York City. These services have been in support of the worker’s rights campaign of the Restaurant Opportunities Center. Come learn how street preaching is being used to gain economic justice for all.
