World Religions and Poverty

Paul F. Knitter in collaboration with the Poverty Initiative

This course studies major religious traditions – Indigenous Traditions, Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam – from the perspective of the economically disadvantaged.  After a careful study of the history, beliefs, and ethics of each tradition, we discuss how contemporary spokespersons of each tradition are drawing inspiration and direction from the religion to achieve greater economic/social justice.  The course seeks to provide the context for liberative, interreligious dialogue.
